Nathan was born in Tennessee and raised in Northern Kentucky. Apart from four years in graduate school and ministry in Colorado, he has lived the majority of his life in the bluegrass state and is proud to call it home. In fact, Nathan is the seventh generation grandson of one of Kentucky’s “founding fathers,” the quintessential American pioneer, Daniel Boone. This explains his ardent interest in all things outdoors – hunting, hiking, fishing, canoeing, camping, etc.

Nathan is a distinguished musician and worship leader whose ministry through music and career in performance encompasses a wide variety of musical styles. During his days at Berea College, he traveled extensively with the Penny Loafers, an a cappella quartet performing a variety of Christian music. His career in performance continued at the University of Northern Colorado where he earned a Master’s of Music in Opera Theater. Thereafter, he was featured in music theater productions, operas, and oratorios throughout Colorado and Kentucky.

Graduate study in music and preparation for ministry continued at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where Nathan earned the Doctor of Musical Arts in Church Music in 2004. He joined the faculty of Boyce College, the undergraduate school of Southern Seminary, the same year and served as Assistant Professor of Worship until 2009. While at Boyce, Dr. Platt was privileged to be the founding director of the Boyce College Chorale and long-time director of the college’s traveling ministry team, Aletheia.

Since college, Nathan has ministered at numerous churches in Colorado, Kentucky, and now Michigan. He is married to Janie, a Virginian and nurse by trade but administrator in most recent years at the University of Louisville Hospital. Nathan and Janie joined the ministry staff at Cornerstone in 2010 and are delighted for the opportunity to return to local church ministry. They have been married 17 years and are the proud parents of Johnathan (7) and Hannah (3).
